#Howto - Guide to Adjusting Your Wintec Saddle
The correct fit of your saddle is crucial to ensure both the joy of riding and your horse’s well-being. We therefore recommend having the saddle’s fit checked again about three months after the initial fitting. During this time, the saddle settles, as is common with new Saddles, especially in the front area.
Your horse is constantly changing—whether due to age, training intensity, or health condition. Therefore, the saddle fit should be checked every six months throughout its use. This ensures that the saddle always fits your horse perfectly and causes no discomfort.
The support of a professional is invaluable here. We recommend consulting an expert whenever possible. But even if professional help is not available, we offer you some tips here to assess the saddle shape yourself and make minor adjustments.
To check withers and spine clearance, saddle balance, and panel contact, the saddle must be in the correct position. Make sure your horse stands evenly on all four legs on a level surface. Feel your horse’s shoulder blade and check that the position of the saddle nail is about three to four centimeters behind the widest point of the shoulder blade. This information is essential to ensure the optimal fit.
Withers and Spine Clearance
Sufficient withers and spine clearance must be ensured at all times. Check that the saddle has no contact with the withers and spine along the panel channel. For this, a rider should be seated in the saddle.
Panel contact
The saddle panel must have even contact with your horse’s back over the entire surface to ensure optimal distribution of the rider’s weight. Feel the panel contact by sliding your hand between the horse’s back and the panel, moving from front to back. Riding position
